



Concept
The workshop is on making the pattern of “Kumiko”, which is traditional arts and crafts technique in Kanuma, Japan. The workshop was held to make a chance to experience the traditional Kumiko for urban people and especially children living in Tokyo area.Kumiko is the woodworking technique in which the design is assembled without using a nail, a glue or a knife.
At the beginning, I describe the project and history of Kumiko. After that, we started to make the pattern of Kumiko. At the same time, I taught the Origami gift box which fit to the Kumiko Christmas Ornament.

Kumiko pieces prepared by craftsman, made from Japanese cypress

35 min : Let's try KUMIKO! Making a wooden brooch or Christmas decoration.
40 min : The last step is to enjoy the Origami gift box.
