CONCEPT
In various workshops held everywhere, I've often seen workshop products that were worked on once and then carelessly thrown away. The hosting organization, as well as participants, often asked themselves the question, "What are we going to do with this now?" I decided to tackle this by finding ways to reduce waste and create a usable and lasting product that can memorialize the workshop. I imagined a gathering where participants can work together in the workshop to transform something into a practical and useful product together.

My idea was to create tote bags with lots of drawings by kids. At the beginning of the workshop, I set up a large canvas on the table in the venue. Many children drew illustrations in the red part of the canvas. The illustrations were related to the theme of Lunar New Year and expressed their hopes and dreams. Then, I stitched these canvas drawings into tote bags with sturdy handles. Finally, a waterproof coating was applied to keep the painted ink from washing off.
