CONCEPT
Supported by NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and City Artist Corps Grants, the purpose of this public art was to introduce a creative and artistic atmosphere to Sunset Park.
The mural was painted on the exterior wall of Brooklyn Chinese American Association, located at 50th St and 8th Ave intersection in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
The theme was "family" since the daycare center is one of many services provided by this client. Additionally, I created the mural with the hope that this busy area where immigrants’ everyday life is located will become a brighter and more welcoming place. The center of the mural depicts family members gathered together and hugging each other. On each side, iconic architecture from NYC was painted. The image is kept simple and graphic, while the colors are bright and eye-catchy.
In the vicinity of the Association, there are many schools, commercial shops, restaurants, and dense residential areas serving a large Chinese and Mexican immigrant community.
