CONCEPT
In the fall of 2023, a casual sushi bar named Kaiyo was established in Dallas. The name ‘Kaiyo’ represents ‘ocean’ in Japanese. Given that the restaurant serves seafood such as sushi and sashimi, it has adopted the ocean and octopus as its motifs. It was chosen as a motif with good intentions, wishing for the success of Kaiyo. Although it’s pop, it gives a slightly calm impression that suits the bar. The octopus women combine a cute atmosphere with the adult image of Shunga.
The octopus carries various meanings. For instance, it is a symbol of happiness, as the word for ‘octopus’ in Japanese can also mean ‘many happiness’. Its suckers, which absorb various things, and its soft body, symbolize flexible thinking and intelligence.
